Nude Man Carrying the Base of a Column. Unsigned. Engraving on paper, 8 5/8 x 5 5/8 in. (22.0 x 14.3 cm),framed.
Condition: Trimmed to the edges of the plate, subtle rippling, staining to the upper corners, not examined out of frame.
N.B. Marcantonio Raimondi was the premier engraver of Raphael's drawings. The Royal Collection Trust writes that this print has been variously interpreted as being based on a lost drawing by Raphael (Bartsch),or by Giulio Romano or Perino del Vaga (Massari),or to be Marcantonio's own invention (Geddes). Although the frame was not opened during cataloging, it appears that the engraving is affixed to the back mat only at the corners.
