Tiger Maple High Chest of Drawers, Bozrah, Connecticut, area, 1773, the top section of thumb-molded graduated drawers, set into lower section of long drawer above short drawers, on valanced apron centering a heart cutout, joining arris-carved legs ending in pad feet, old surface, in a remarkable state of preservation, (imperfections),ht. 72, lower case wd. 38, lower case dp. 18 1/4 in.
Provenance: Presumed to have descended in the Gager Family of Bozrah, Connecticut. Likely purchased by the original owners upon the occasion of the 1773 marriage of Samuel Gager to Hannah Caulkins; purchased from Nathan Liverant and Son.
Note: This high chest of drawers at one point belonged to the Gager descendants whose miniature portraits were painted by James Sanford Ellsworth, and which are offered as lot 115 in this sale.
