N.B. This replica of Saint Gaudens's Bust of Lincoln was presented to David Herbert Donald, an American historian and author of Lincoln (Touchstone Books),upon being awarded the Lincoln Prize by Gettysburg College and the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History in 1996. The Gilder Lehrman Lincoln Prize is awarded annually for the finest scholarly work in English on Abraham Lincoln, the American Civil War soldier, or a subject relating to their era.

The original Saint Gaudens Sculpture was recast by Michael Nolte of Vanguard Sculpture Services, a full service foundry in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The portrait bust of President Abraham Lincoln was derived from the full-length standing portrait completed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens in 1887 for Chicago's Lincoln Park. Saint-Gaudens based Lincoln's likeness on plaster life casts of the president's head.
