U.S. Model 1840 Ames Heavy Cavalry Saber, c. 1849, brass hilt with wire-wrapped leather grip, marked on the ricasso "AMES MFG. CO./CABOTVILLE/1849" and "US/WD," with a steel scabbard, blade lg. 36, overall lg. 41 1/2 in.
Estimate $400-600
In overall very good condition with some patination on the hilt and scabbard. Markings are in very good condition.
