U.S. Model 1842 Rifle Musket and Bayonet, c. 1846, .70 bore, walnut stock, steel fittings, lock marked with an eagle and "US" in front of the cock, and marked "SPRING/FIELD/1846" on the tail, breech marked with proofs and dated "1845" on the barrel tang, bayonet marked "US," barrel lg. 42, overall lg. 58 in.
