Rasselas Whitcomb Surveyor's Transit, Cincinnati, Ohio, mid-19th century, 9 1/2-in. scope with fine focusing, "A"-frame supports, 4 1/2-in. dia. engraved silvered dial reading "R. Whitcomb/Cincinnati," with fleur-de-lis representing north, opposing vernier scales, and unusual spring-powered fine adjustment mechanism, mounted to a four-screw adjustable base, ht. 11 in.
