W. & L.E. Gurley Reconnaissance Transit, Troy, New York, 6 1/2-in. engraved brass dial marked as above and fleur-de-lis representing north, horizontal plate with vernier scale divided 20-0-20, 3 1/2-in. vertical circle, and an 11-in. scope with level, housed in a dovetailed case, ht. 11 in.
Note: Gurley introduced reconnaissance transits around 1887.
