Unusual Julius Hanks Vernier Surveyor's Compasses, Gibbonsville, New York, c. 1808-25, 6 1/2-in. dia. engraved silvered dial marked "J. Hanks" with fleur-de-lis representing north, spirit level and south sighting vane mounted to a vernier that can be read and adjusted to one minute of arc, lg. 15 in.
