Pair of Painted Cast Iron Gates from the "Antipolier Society of Harlem," late 19th century, the arched cresting joining spindles topped by leaves, the middle rail joining additional spindles, all flanked by urn finials, weathered surface of silver and red paint, ht. 57, wd. 50 in.
Provenance: The Collection of Enid and Alexander Fisher, Roxbury, Connecticut.
Note: The Antipolier Society of Harlem was an organization, named after a town in Poland, which raised money to support Jewish immigrants and refugees. The town of Antipolier itself had its entire Jewish population wiped out on one afternoon in 1943.
