Two folio volumes, title pages printed in red and black with engraved vignette, engraved portrait of the author opposite first title, illustrated with 218 full-page engravings, bound in uniform contemporary full speckled calf over boards, gilt-decorated spines (rubbed, scuffed, joints cracked, damage to corners and endcaps), ex libris Sir George Shuckburgh, Baron with bookplates, ownership inscriptions of Charles Earl Gasteyer dated 1948, 14 x 9 1/2 in.
