Description:
Dwight Tryon (American, 1849-1925)
Evening Light. Inscribed with the artist's name, title, and date "...1922" on a label on the reverse. Pastel on paper, 6 x 11 1/2 in., framed. Condition: Not examined out of frame.
Estimate $400-600
The frame was opened during preview. The work is pastel on paper mounted to paperboard. Signed very faintly in pencil "DW Tryon" l.r., dated equally faintly in pencil "1909" l.l. Abrasions, tape remnants, and glue residue around the edges of the recto, probably from an ealier mounting. Pigment to the sky is thinly applied. It appears that the composition may be on dark paper, which is visible through the thinner layers of pastel.
