Assembled Set of Eight Carved Mahogany Chairs, Massachusetts, c. 1760-80, each with serpentine crests and pierced "owl" splats, frontal cabriole legs ending in claw-and-ball feet, raking chamfered rear legs, and block-turned stretchers, ht. 37 1/2, seat ht. 17 1/2 in.

minor repair to at least one splat, one chair pieced at stile where seat rail joins, insect damage to one stretcher, some knee returns replaced, some glue blocks replaced, some stretchers reattached and joints strengthened, wear and scratching to carving commensurate with age, color of finish varies widely from chair to chair, four chairs overupholstered, four with slip seats. Upholstery in good condition.
