Hand-stitched Nine Patch with Hourglass Blocks Civil War-era Calico Quilt, America, c. 1865, blocks composed of brown and blue printed fabric forming "hourglasses" on a white background with brown and blue striped fabric in between, lg. 84, wd. 83 in.
Provenance: Information provided with the quilt reads: "The quilt was given in 1985 to the current owner by Flora Gore Stafford who was owner's husband's great aunt. The quilt had a note attached to it that said 'made by Great G. Mother Gore during Civil War - do not use because of its age.' This was signed by Ruth Reid Shillingburg. The current owners have not found who this person is in their ancestry lines."
