Description:
Laura Coombs Hills (American, 1859-1952)
Azaleas
Signed "Laura Hills" u.l., photocopies of images taken of the back of the pastel, including the title Azalias [sic], affixed to the frame backing paper.
Pastel on paper/board, sight size 21 1/4 x 17 1/2 in. (54.0 x 44.3 cm),framed.
Condition: Not examined out of frame.
Provenance: Skinner, Inc., American & European Works of Art, September 22, 1995, Sale 1668, Lot 418.
Estimate $1,000-1,500
Framed dimensions are 34 x 29 1/2 in. Although the frame was not opened during cataloging, the condition appears very good.
The work has been reframed since it was first sold at Skinner in 1995. In addition to the photocopy of the title, there is another photocopy showing a French artist's materials maker "E.G. PAR..." presumably on the reverse, suggesting that the work was done on artist's board rather than on paper. There is also a faint label from a Boston framer, E.W. Bayley & Son, encapsulated on the frame backing paper.
Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging. Any condition statement given, as a courtesy to a client, is only an opinion and should not be treated as a statement of fact. Skinner shall have no responsibility for any error or omission.
