Elliot Offner (American, 1931-2010)
Great Blue Heron (Miniature), c. 1987
Signed "© offner" on the top of the base, inscribed "Smith College" on the side of the base, and stamped "JM" in a rectangle and inscribed "edition 150" on the back edge of the base.
Bronze with brown patina, height 7 3/4 in. (19.5 cm).
Condition: Minor dust and grime.
N.B. Elliot Offner taught at Smith College from 1960 until his retirement in 2004. His large bronze Great Blue Heron is a familiar sculpture on the Smith campus. The bird's twin was the first piece of public art commissioned for the city of Darien, Connecticut, in 1987, and is now in the Darien Public Library courtyard.
