Condition: Patch reinforcement, minor retouch, craquelure.
N.B. Charles Noel Flagg descended in a prestigious family of artists. He was the son of New York portrait painter Jared B. Flagg and grandnephew of Washington Allston. He studied in Paris under Jacquesson de la Chevreuse, a pupil of Ingres. Settling first in New York, he taught at the National Academy of Design and shorty thereafter, in 1888, relocated his studio to Hartford, Connecticut. His portrait of Mark Twain, created in 1890, is in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York.
