N.B. One the earliest influences leading McCurry to photography was a 1961 Life magazine article about the monsoons that was photographed by Brian Brake. (1) When McCurry went to shoot his monsoon subjects he was working for National Geographic and spent nearly six months in Southeast Asia and Australia to capture his images. Since this first series of images McCurry has captured monsoon subjects repeatedly in the course of more than 80 trips to Asia over three decades.
