George Platt Lynes (American, 1907-1955)

Four Portraits of Jack Fontan, c. 1954. Two stamped "GEORGE PLATT LYNES/145 EAST 52 STREET NEW YORK" on the verso in black ink, one stamped "CHARLES HOWARD/145 EAST 52 STREET NEW YORK" on the verso in black ink. Gelatin silver prints, image/sheet sizes to 9 1/4 x 7 1/2 in. (23.3 x 18.9 cm),unmatted, unframed.
Condition: Minor wear to edges and corners, crease in corner of square print of Fontan in a doorway, the other print of Fontan in a doorway has been cut down.

Provenance: A Connecticut estate.

All photos have a matte finish with minor wear to the edges and curling to the edges.
Photo with Fontan in doorway facing away measures 9 1/2 x 4 1/4 inches. Light crimping to top right and left on recto. No other visible loses. Stamp on verso reads "RGE PLATT LYNES/AST 52 STRET NEW YORK" as the image has been trimmed.
Photo with Fontan in doorway facing towards viewer measure 7 1/8 x 7 5/8 in. Minor accreation to top right and creased edge to top right on recto. Bottom edge has been trimmed and there is a minor uneven notch. Full stamp on verso reads "GEORGE PLAYY LYNES/145 EAST 52 STREET NEW YORK".
Photo with Fontan resting head on chin measures 9 1/4 x 7 1/2 inches. Small abrasion with loss on left side, worn near top and bottom, and creasing to the lower left, all on recto. Small pinprick losses visible in background. Minute loss to paper on lower edge verso. Bears no stamp. See photos for better condition accessment.
Photo with Fontan in corner measures 8 1/8 x 7 5/8 inches. Small creases to margins, slightly more worn to top and bottom, minute creasing near margins, all on recto. Noticable loss to lower edge. Stamp on verso reads "CHARLES HOWARD/145 EAST 52 STREET NEW YORK"
