Visitor's Register, Houseboat Rosalie, 1902. Large quarto notebook, with 113 pages signed by visitors to the boat, including Hooker family members, several with drawings, notably a full-page pen-and-ink self-portrait of Henry Ward Ranger (1858-1916) smoking a cigar and playing the organ, captioned, "Seated one day at the organ while you were weary and ill at ease," and signed by Ranger; full leather, front board detached, 9 3/4 x 7 1/2 in. [together with] two period photos of the Rosalie under construction, four other snapshots of boats, and a large photo of six men in suits on the boat.

The houseboat Rosalie was built at Noank, Connecticut, by Robert Palmer for Edward Williams Hooker (1865-1915); it was a motive power steam boat 130 feet in length, with a breadth of 30 feet, and was launched in May of 1902. Roland M. Hooker lived on the boat for five summers with his father and mother and sister Rosalie. Hooker was a member of the Connecticut state house of representatives from Hartford, 1907-08; and mayor of Hartford from 1908 to 1910. Ranger was the first member of the Florence Griswold circle in the Old Lyme Art Colony in Old Lyme, Connecticut.
