First edition, rare early medical malpractice pamphlet from Machias, Maine, involving an injury sustained by the plaintiff, Charles Lowell (1793-1858),an Ellsworth, Maine lawyer who was thrown from his horse who lost its footing and then fell on its grounded rider, injuring and dislocating Lowell's left hip, an injury that eventually led to paralysis on the left side of his body; although unsuccessful in his case, heard by the Honorable Nathan Weston Jr., the case remains an important legal milestone in the history of malpractice litigation; bound in contemporary half leather with marbled paper boards, front boar detached, ex library, with old rubber stamps to title, 8 x 4 3/4 in.
