Kipling, Rudyard (1865-1936) Departmental Ditties and Other Verses. Lahore, India: Department of Public Journalism [Civil and Military Gazette Press], 1886. First edition of Kipling's first published work, narrow oblong octavo with original printed paper self-envelope with flap (without the string, bottom joint of flap split, approximately 1 1/4 inch), one of perhaps 350 copies printed, with a typed description from Vienna-born bookseller Charles Sessler's (1854-1935) Walnut Street, Philadelphia bookshop inserted, in custom chemise and slipcase, 10 1/2 x 4 1/4 in.
