First edition, octavo, half-title present (marbled paper pasted over the half-title as part of the original limp paper binding, now torn away, with old institutional rubber stamp on portion of half-title recto and on verso of same),with a number on page 23 and the errata printed at the foot of the last leaf; stab sewn, contents with some slight spotting and a few marginal corrections of typographical errors, contemporary inscription inside back cover, "May ye 1: 1739, A father's gift to Samuell Fisher," rare, no copies offered at auction since 1996, twelve U.S. copies listed in ESTC; 6 5/8 x 4 1/4 in.

Dexter was a graduate of Harvard College and the fourth minister of Dedham, Massachusetts. His sermon contains a short history of the Puritan settlement of New England in the 17th century, and more detailed consideration to the settlement of Dedham in particular.
