Crissman, Joshua (1833-1922) and William Isaac Marshall (1840-1906) Views in the Yellowstone National Park. Fitchburg: Marshall, 1876. Folio, volume one only (as identified on spine),no printed title page or text, containing sixteen 9 1/2 x 7 1/2 in. albumen prints mounted on heavy album pages, each image titled on the mount; including the following sixteen photographs: Sentinel Rock; Canon of Fire Hole; Madison Falls; Finger Rock; Crater, Main Chimney, Grotto Geyser (two views taken from different angles); Craters of Turban and Grand Geysers; Crater of Castle Geyser, from N. and Crystal Spring; Crater of Old Faithful Geyser; Crater of Beehive, Giantess Mound Behind; Sylvan Cascade, Above Upper Geyser Basin; Crystal Cascades of Cascade Creek; Tower Fall from above; the same from below; Lower Falls of Yellowstone; and Successful Hunters Dressing Elk; rare, no copies of such a publication appear in the auction records under either Crissman's or Marshall's name, Worldcat also seems to have no indication of a similar volume; bound in full contemporary morocco lettered, tooled, and ruled in blind and gilt; a.e.g., binding rubbed, some spotting to contents, 13 1/2 x 11 1/4 in.

Marshall was a lover of Yellowstone National Park, a guide there in the 1870s and 1880s, a gold miner and prospector, an honorary (and self-proclaimed) "professor" of Yellowstone, publishing articles on his favorite topic, and also claimed to be the first person to bring children into the park. Although not technically a photographer, he purchased Joshua Crissman's large Yellowstone and Montana photo collection and marketed the views under his own copyright.
