Roosevelt, Franklin Delano (1882-1945) Seventeen Typed Letters Signed, 1916-1919. A series of letters addressed to Ernest Lester Jones (1876-1929),hydrographic and geodetic engineer and Superintendent of the U.S. Coast and Geodetic Survey, working under the Department of Commerce (1915-1929),each letter is typed on Navy Department stationery and signed by Roosevelt in his capacity as Acting and later Assistant Secretary of the Navy, topics covered include FDR's responses to Jones recommending people for jobs with the Navy, sending annual reports, requesting photographs of Navy vessels, asking about promotions and advocating for sailors, and responding to other missives from Jones; all in good condition, with original folds, some docketed with rubber stamps acknowledging date of receipt, paper sizes vary. Jones's career is notable for his resolution of the boundary dispute between the United States and Canada, concerning Alaska. He matriculated to Princeton University in the class 1898.
