N.B. Cornelia Ray (1829-1867) and Nathalie Elizabeth Ray (1837-1912) were sisters, children of a prominent New York City merchant, Robert Ray, and Cornelia Prime Ray. A brief family genealogy may be viewed at https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/150110652/cornelia-hamilton. The label on the frame dates the work to c. 1844 in Paris.
