The Vision of Mary Magdalene
Oil on canvas, 11 7/8 x 16 5/8 in. (30.0 x 42.0 cm), unframed.

N.B. The image of Mary Magdalene reclining in a landscape is often associated with Correggio, who portrayed the Magdalene resting on one elbow reading a book. She is shown in the work at hand in a rocky landscape near the entrance to a cave or grotto, where legend suggests she lived out her life in seclusion. She holds her attribute, the unguent jar, and gazes upward at a vision of the cross.
