James II Sterling Silver Monteith, London, 1685-86, George Garthorne, maker, seven panels with engraved chinoiserie scene featuring figures, foliage, and architectural ruins, the eighth panel with engraved armorial crest of Cayley, each offset by a stippled-ground panel, dia. 10 1/2 in., approx. 25.1 troy oz.

Provenance: Sold by Louis Wine, Ltd., Dublin, to Mary Martha Armstrong (Mrs. Andrew B.) McClary (1898-1989), Windsor, Vermont; 1975, gift of Mrs. Andrew B. McClary to the MFA, Boston (Accession Date: December 10, 1975).

Sold by the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, for the benefit of the collection.
