Thomas Whitney Four-vane Vernier Compass, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, lacquered brass instrument with 6 1/2-in. dia. engraved dial reading "Thos. Whitney/Maker/Philadelphia," eight-point line rose with fleur-de-lis representing north, blued-steel needle, and tripod mount, housed in its original fitted box with "William Ewin/Baltimore" paper label on interior lid.
