Rare Jonas Horton Phelps Vernier Compass, c. 1842-44, 6 1/2-in. engraved silvered compass with fleur-de-lis representing north and reading in the center "J.H. Phelps/Troy, N.Y.," blued-steel needle with locking knob on underside, dual spirit levels mounted on north side, vernier with fine adjustment knob, lg. 15 3/4 in.
