Meneely & Oothout Railroad Compass, no. 664, c. 1838, 6 1/2-in. engraved silvered dial marked on outer edge "Meneely & Oothout/West Troy, N.Y.," eight-point rose with fleur-de-lis representing north and reading "Warranted/No. 664/1838," with split needle, horizontal limb read at beveled vernier, housed in its original mahogany box, with detached label.
Provenance: The collection of William H. Skerritt.
Note: According to Skerritt's notes the instrument is marked "Made by Henry Meneely" internally.
