Needlework Sampler "Eliza Hilton," Maine, dated 1812, stitched in silk on linen with seven lines of alphabet and numbers, signed and dated "Eliza R. Hilton aged 13, 1812," over three lines of verse, unframed, ht. 10, wd. 9 1/4 in.
Provenance: Collection of Madeline Fisher.
Note: Genealogical sources document an Eliza Hilton born in Maine in 1799, married to Thomas Hanson (1787-1872) in 1843, and having died in 1872 in Bartlett, New Hampshire.
