Chinese Export Gilt-decorated Lacquered Desk/Worktable, China, mid-19th century, lavishly decorated with scenes depicting idealized Asian landscapes, made in three sections: upper case with molded cornice, two doors open to interior with three short drawers above double doors flanked by three short drawers, three long drawers, an additional drawer opens from the right exterior; a portable desk with brass bail handles, and hinged lid opening to a fitted interior; both elements rest on a table with velvet-covered pullout slide and pullout sewing basket, all on lyre-form legs on trestle feet carved with dragons' heads, ht. 57 1/2, wd. 27 1/2, dp. 24 1/2 in.

Gilt painting well preserved, tight crack to right door and right side of upper case, short crack at tops of both legs, handle on left side of portable desk missing, a few tears in sewing basket fabric.
