Carved Dark Red Cinnabar Lacquered Double-sided Box and Cover, China, possibly Qianlong period, slightly domed shallow bowl-shape, the box with a phoenix amongst peonies in a roundel, the cover with a Daoist landscape with Immortals in a roundel, both with a floral-patterned frieze around rims, black-lacquered interior, ht. 5, dia. 7 1/4 in.
Provenance: Purchased in China in the 1930s, then by descent to the present owner.
