Signed and dated "T.E. Butler/1911" l.l., inscribed indistinctly on the reverse, identified on a labels from R.H. Love Galleries, Inc., Chicago, and Hirschl & Adler Galleries, Inc., New York, affixed to the frame backing board.
Oil on canvas, 31 3/4 x 25 3/4 in. (80.5 x 65.0 cm),framed.
Condition: Good.
Provenance: The estate of Richard Mellon Scaife, Pennsylvania. The proceeds from the sale of this lot will benefit a Pennsylvania art institution.

Framed dimensions are 41 1/2 x 35 1/2 in.
Also with a fragmentary printed label on the stretcher from a New York gallery with the monogram CES and first name of the gallery "Charles...." remaining. This label bears the typewritten name of the artist "T.E. BUTLER."
The inscription on the back may possibly read "VB Society."
No sign of retouch under UV examination, but there is natural fluorescence of some of the pigment, particularly the greens. Fine scattered (and stable) craquelure. There are no other issues to report.
