Signed "Robert W. Allan" l.l., titled on a presentation plaque affixed to the frame, inscribed "arriving from the herring fishing at Montrose/by Robert W Allan R.W.S./98 James Street, Buckingham Gate" on a piece of paper taped to the stretcher.

Condition: Lined, craquelure, retouch.

Frame measures 38 1/2 x 52 1/2 in. (97.7 x 133.2 cm). Frame is relatively new.
Retouch more prominently scattered in sky, also to fill craquelure in the foregound vessel and dingy, and with scattered dots and dashes in the water. The major retouch in the sky consists of a T-shaped repair measuring approximately 8 inches down and 9 inches across located center left and a diagonal series of two spots measuring about 2 inches long, separated by a smaller dot, located center right in the sky.
