School of Hans von Aachen (German, 1552-1615)
The Dream of Paris. Faintly inscribed l.r., inscribed "J. Saenredam" and "...E" in a later hand on the reverse. Ink and red chalk on laid paper, 6 x 7 1/4 in., framed. Condition: Creasing, toning, sheet mounted onto a supporting paper.
N.B. This drawing, depicting the sleeping figure of Paris and the goddesses, was reviewed via photographs by Dr. Yvonne Bleyerveld of the RKD, who suggested that it was created c. 1600 in the environment of Hans von Aachen.
Estimate $800-1,200
Dedicated indistinctly, perhaps "Luis Lemua from Ruth de Vuilay" in pencil on one of the interior backing papers, and "McKinlay" and "Miss Ruth" in pencil on secondary backing sheets.
