After Jean-Baptiste Greuze (French, 1725-1805)
The Wool Winder
Oil on canvas, 13 x 9 3/4 in. (32.5 x 24.5 cm), framed.
Condition: Puncture, patch reinforcements, retouch, craquelure.
N.B. The painting at hand appears to be a 19th-century, mirror-image recreation of Greuze's painting The Wool Winder, c. 1759, an oil measuring 29 3/8 x 24 1/8 inches, in the collection of the Frick Museum in New York since 1943. The reversed composition suggests that the painting was copied after a print.
