Frank Duveneck (American, 1848-1919)
Old Lady with a Cap. Unsigned, identified and titled on a presentation plaque and a label, both from the California Palace for the Legion of Honor, San Francisco, both affixed to the frame backing. Oil on canvas, 20 x 16 in., framed (in a liner). Condition: Craquelure, retouch, minor paint losses to edges and corners, surface grime, patch repair to l.r. on the reverse.
Provenance: Collection of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Boott Duveneck, the son and daughter-in-law of the artist, Monterey, California; gift from Mr. and Mrs. Francis Boott Duveneck to the California Palace of the Legion of Honor, San Francisco, 1958; Bonham's, Los Angeles, The Elegant Home auction, November 14, 2017, Lot 858, sold to benefit the Acquisitions Fund of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco.
