Description:
Orson Byron Lowell (American, 1871-1956)
Father, Daughter, and "Antique" Suitor. Unsigned, identified on a printed label affixed to the frame backing paper. Pen and ink with pale color washes on paper, sight size 20 x 24 in., framed. Condition: Toning, creases, shallow abrasions, not examined out of frame.
N.B. The label on the reverse details a conversation taking place between the wealthy father (Pater) and elegantly appointed daughter (Jane) regarding a suitor waiting in the wings. The father says, "Well, Jane, I have bought him. But what can you see in that second-hand, broken down, shop-worn old piece, rickety in the legs, and the veneer off in half a dozen places?" Jane replies, "Can it be I have inherited your passion for antiques?"
Provenance: The collection of Frederic and Jean Sharf.
Estimate $400-600
