Description:

Charles Dana Gibson (American, 1867-1944)

A New York Day: Noon. Signed "C.D. Gibson" in ink l.c., identified on a printed label affixed to the frame backing paper. Pen and ink on paper/board, sight size 21 3/4 x 13 3/4 in., framed. Condition: Toning, pale staining, crease to c.l. side, not examined out of frame.

N.B. The printed label provided the title for this work and indicated that the drawing was published in Scribner's Magazine, September 1898. It also suggested that the model was most likely the artist's wife, Irene Langhorne Gibson.
Provenance: The collection of Frederic and Jean Sharf.
Estimate $600-800
