John Gonter Full Stock Kentucky Flintlock Rifle
- Sold for:
John Gonter Full Stock Kentucky Flintlock Rifle, c. early 19th century, tiger maple stock with raised cheek piece, brass butt plate, patch box, trigger guard, ramrod pipes, nose cap, and side plate marked "J.GONTER," silver wrist plate, siler wedge escutcheons and silver inlay on the left side of the butt, reconverted lock marked "LONDON/WARRANTED," unmarked barrel, barrel lg. 43, overall lg. 59 1/4 in.
Provenance: The collection of Ed Vebell.
Stock has a few dings and nicks, the lock functions but does not stay on half cock when the trigger is pulled, and one of the barrel wedge's is missing. The replaced pan and cock are done fairly nicely and there is a patch on weld on the vent that was redrilled. A borescope also reveals a blob of weld inside the breech.
