Pastel on paper, 25 1/2 x 21 in., in a molded walnut and parcel-gilt frame, backed with an 1823 edition of The Patriot, a New York newspaper.
Condition: Repairs, small holes, overall fading.

Provenance: Descended directly in the sitter's family to Henry Seguine of Staten Island. Purchased from Jim and Judy Milne, 1977.

Note: Annette Hoogland was born on November 9, 1764, to Welhelmus and Maria Hegeman Hoogland, and settled in Cold Spring, Long Island, after her marriage to Isaac Bogart Jr. in 1781. Annette and Isaac's children lived in New Jersey, and the painting may have been done on a trip to visit them, or perhaps a trip by Micah Williams to New York.
