Pan American Boeing 707 Airplane Aviation Model, California, 1955-58, display model on stand built by Pacific Miniatures, accompanied by original wooden shipping crate, approx. ht. 49, lg. 54, wd. 51, crate ht. 16 1/4, wd. 48, dp. 48 in.

Provenance: The collection of Frederic and Jean Sharf.

Note: Pan American ordered twenty of what is now called the Model 707 in 1955. Bill Boeing died in September of 1956. He was not alive when the badged 707 flew from Boeing Field to the Pan American servicing base in Miami. Its inaugural flight occurred on October 26th, 1958. Mamie Eisenhower christened the first flight. The plane was named Clipper America and numbered N707PA. It made the first jet flight over the Atlantic non-stop to Paris, with 111 passengers on board.
