Unusual Frederick Heisley Vernier Compass, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, first half 19th century, lacquered brass instrument with 6 1/2-in. dia. engraved silvered dial marked "Heisley Harrisburg," in script, simple eight-point line rose with fleur-de-lis representing north, blued-steel hand, vernier, dual bubble levels, outkeeper scale from 1-16, single vane engraved with scale from 10-0-10 with rack-and-pinion extending sight, lg. 14 in.

bubble levels might be old replacement as there is a shadow or ghost mark for a circular level.
