Clockmaker Daniel Steward's Engraved Brass Container or Box, Lunenburg, Massachusetts, c. 1774, 3-in. dia. lidded container with a fully engraved lid, side and bottom, lid with the date of 1783, a six point compass rose and "DA," bottom reading in script "Daniel Steward/1774/Fits/Lunenburg," with numerals on the outer edge, the layout resembles that of a clock boss found in a clock dial.
Note: Daniel was born in Salem, Massachusetts, in 1734, and died in 1802. At the age of forty-two he served in Captain Aaron Guild's company during the Revolutionary War. His estate inventoried clocks, watches, and related tools at his death.
