Painted Wood Figure of the Judge of Hell, Korea, 19th century, standing with a scroll and a brush (separately carved) in his hands, gessoed and colored, ht. 32 1/4 in.
Provenance: Purchased in Busan possibly in 1950 by a US agent to Korea; bequeathed in 2013 to his nephew, the current owner.

numerous age cracks, flaking pigments, loss of painted details, some old chips particularly to hat, the brush, possibly added later.
