Baltimore Album Quilt Top, Frederick County, Maryland, c. 1856, blocks composed mostly of red roses and green leafy stems, each block signed by its maker, one marked "A contribution/From/The Sisters of Pleasant Hill/To/John Umpstead/Catherine Cronise/1856," approx. 94 x 94 in.
Note: According to genealogical research provided by the consignor, Catherine Cronise was born in 1815 and died in 1898. She is buried in the Pleasant Hill German Baptist Cemetery in Monrovia, Frederick County, Maryland. The Pleasant Hill Church was an offshoot of the German Baptist Brethren Church formed in about 1853.
