Walnut Carved Slant-lid Desk, possibly North Carolina, early 19th century, the thumb-molded lid opens to an interior of valanced compartments, shaped drawers, and document drawers flanking a concave carved prospect panel, above a case of two short drawers flanking the top drawer and three drawers below, with reeded lambrequin corners and ogee bracket feet, brasses appear to be original, old surface, ht. 43, wd. 42 1/2, dp. 19 1/2 in.
Note: The date "June 12th 1819" is written in pen on the side of each document drawer, and the "price $28.50" on one of them. According to family history, this desk has its origins in Charlotte, North Carolina.
