Needlework Sampler "Mary Ann Babcock," Westerly, Rhode Island, 1826, stitched in worsted wool on a linen background, composed of six lines of alphabet and numbers above a white three-story house, "MARY ANN BABCOCKs SAMPLER 1826," and two blocks of verse, the bottom with stitched men and boys in black jackets and hats, bordered by flowering vines and birds, 17 1/4 x 16 in.
Provenance: Mary Ann Babcock married Benjamin Reynolds Champlin on September 22, 1842, and the sampler descended through the Champlin family until sold by Adelaide Zankee at Gould Auction, May 12, 2007.
