With this text, More refutes the work of Simon Fish, a 16th-century Protestant reformer and English propagandist, who published Supplication for the Beggars in 1529, railing against the Catholic clergy. It was enough to get him condemned as a heretic by the church. He was meant to stand trial, but was claimed first by the Bubonic plague.
